The Flow of Change
Is the economic crisis finally over? If you were to examine the expert opinions of financial analysts, the consensus seems to be that problems may be subsiding in some areas of financial sectors but they will continue at current level and may even spread to other sectors.

However, an economic crisis is one that is determined by hard numbers as much as by perception. And as the old saying goes in marketing and in politics, perception is reality. And as perception and reality blur, investors may choose to wait it out instead of committing, customers downsize their orders and suppliers deal with over capacity. This is a classic case of economic crisis that has turned into a crisis of confidence.

Over the years, what proved to be a great equalizer and effective hedge in an uncertain economic climate is technology. Technology that saves time and money. Technology that kindles market interest and ultimately defines management confidence no matter what the future brings.

We only need to look to BDO’s pioneering efforts in electronic banking (Page 6) as well as Jollibee’s renewed thrust for customer satisfaction through consolidated call center and voice solutions (Page 8). CDO Foodsphere’s story of rapid expansion (page 14) was built on grit, insight and technology. In fact, Philippine technology works so well, it sells better abroad, thanks to PLDT partners who actively promote it (Page 16).

By the end of the day, that is what we’re all after, to spur the confidence for business to re-commit, to kick-start the economic engine once again. It will bring us closer in finally making the country a true global player. It’s great news that the economic crisis also brought an economic reformation. Change, that magic word of yore, is indeed making itself felt. Make no mistake about it; change is coming as a constant, even gentle, but irresistible force spurred by technology. Our solutions and our technology will continue to shape the future business ambient we all work in. PLDT commits to redefine how much more efficiently we transact, buy, sell, and profit. Changing lives is also as much as changing work. PLDT, as agent of change and innovation, also believes that it never ends, that in fact there is no finish line.
